R.I.P. Michael Joseph Jackson

Losing Michael Jackson was honestly like losing a member of the family, I was raised by his music, I discovered the love of music and dance though him. I am sad, but I am also relieved. Though Michael Jackson was still young, and his death is sudden and tragic, I find solace in knowing that I can put on a CD and hear his beautiful voice. I can put on a DVD and watch him perform. I can put his name into a search box, press enter, and see pictures that span decades, watch videos, hear music, and experience art by him, of him, and inspired by him. Though he is gone from this world physically, he is forever and always in our hearts. He lives on through his amazing music and he continues to inspire generations of artists after him. I am comforted by this, and I am at peace with it.

New Music: Eye Alaska & The Maine
The new Eye Alaska song ‘American Landslide’ is super duper awesome (seriously, there aren’t any better adjectives). If you listen to them, your life will be 10x better than it is currently. Fact. Check it on on their purevolume page. The Maine’s Def Leppard cover is really good to me too, BTW. Nothing compares to Eye Alaska unleashing that “American Landslide”, but it’s a close second to the good things that happened today. I like when The Maine covers songs because they really do just make it their own.

What Happens In Vegas
Anarbor, Eye Alaska, The Summer Set and The Secret Handshake opened for The Cab at Saturday’s show at Chain Reaction, in Anaheim, CA. It was honestly one of the best shows I’ve ever attended. Anarbor opened with a solid set, they sounded quite good and the audience got into it right away. I was worried because last time I saw them, I was a somewhat unimpressed. I was toward the back, though, and even I could sway side to side without looking out of place… that was definitely a good sign. Eye Alaska followed with an amazing set as always. I’m biased, but they were definitely one of the bests of the night. Brandon is starting to get real grown on stage and I have to say I’m liking it. I was surprised by how many people were into them, considering most of the crowd seemed to be there solely for The Cab. I caught most of The Summer Set, and though the lead singer’s voice irks my nerves, the songs are pretty catchy and fun to bob your head to. I like them, probably because I like The Maine, and they sound just like them. (They should work on that.) Much to my surprise, The Secret Handshake put on a hell of a show, the place was packed and everyone seemed to be moving. Finally, The Cab performed. It was my first time ever seeing them, and they did not disappoint. I can respect the opinion of those who don’t like their style of music, but I’m urban, so I can definitely get into the R&B feel of their songs. Alex Deleon, despite looking like a fool, has a good voice and really has stage presence. Their entire set was amazing, and the audience participation was 100%.
I did not expect to enjoy myself nearly as much as I did, and I’m so glad I went. I’m looking forward to the Tempe, AZ show in August, and hopefully I’ll have photos andor videos to share. Since I was most surprised by The Secret Handshake, I’m going to put them down as my recommended listening. Check them him out on MySpace. P.S. I have a real issue with a one-man-band having a full band name.

Warped Tour Merch
So, as you probably know, Warped Tour is fast approaching. This Friday marks the kick-off of the summer-long event that will take place in cities all over the country. Since I am only excited to see 3OH!3 and The Maine, I am going to kill some time checking out the sweet merch they have available. They put up previews on warpedtour.com and I have to say, there are a few things I have my eyes on.

Scene Junkie
Welcome to the SCENEJUNKIE.NET — our music, our fashion, our scene. When we first opened the site as POPTHRILLER.COM, we wanted to bring you a fan’s firsthand in the local scene; our take on music, fashion, and trends. While we never stopped going to shows, or taking interests in local artists or fashion brands, we never left ourselves the time or energy to actually share it, as we had initially intended. Knowing that we would probably never be able to give the site the proper attention, we decided to go about things in a different way. He were are at Alpha 2 of the site. The basic concept is the same, but the execution is a little different. We will still feature local bands that we love, fashion brands we discover and trends we can’t get enough or (or are already tired of). We will also keep up with the latest in music and pop culture, but only the people we choose to cover and only topics that we actually care about. We really don’t have name for what this will be, more than a blog, but not quite a ‘zine. Be warned: This is not all smiles and rainbows, we trash talk too! Keep your eyes peeled for changes coming to the site soon.
